The first picture shows the beach in east-direction at ebb. At the waterline there are big fabric-tubes, filled with sand. They must break the waves from the North Sea. But the effect is not quite good. You can see it at the upper right hand of the picture, where the dunes have broken by the sea.

The second picture was taken from top of the fabric-tubes at ebb. There are big holes from the stream of the North Sea, filled with water. You can see the black fabric-tubes, too. They look a little bit like stranded whales.

This picture shows the beach at the western side of the island. This part of the island is called "Flinthörn".

Land winning at the German North Sea. At the coast of the German North Sea, the islands are like pearls on a string. Between the islands and the country, the water is called tideland. To increase the islands, people try to win soil from the tideland. You see the new land, called saltmeadow" with water-ditches between the new land to drain it.
